BLANDFORD FORUM AREA GUIDE

History & Heritage

Blandford Forum is a historic market town situated on the River Stour, with much of its distinctive character coming from its Georgian architecture. Following the Great Fire of 1731, which destroyed much of the town centre, Blandford was rebuilt in the Georgian style by local architects John and William Bastard.

The town’s impressive Market Place remains at the heart of Blandford, surrounded by historic buildings, independent businesses and local amenities. The town also has a strong connection with the Hall & Woodhouse brewery, which has been based in nearby Blandford St Mary since the 18th century.
